Sweaters, Boots…It must be fall?

Oct 16

The temperatures are getting a bit cooler and that means changing up staple pieces in your wardrobe for fall.

Today I am wearing a jersey pencil skirt in tan/black large stripes, one of my new favorite pieces by the way! So comfortable and flattering, hugs all the right things and is extremely easy to style.  I topped by skirt off with an oversized 3/4 black sweater with a fun back detail, its sheer! If I wouldn’t be at work it would be fun to wear only a black bra under and show that off from the back but hey girls gotta be office appropriate.  Because my summer tan is long gone, I covered some of the whiteness with a new pair of short velvetty black platform wedge booties that I got last week during lunch break shopping.

I am accessorized with gold bangles, Michael Kors watch (surprise, surprise) and a long gold leaf necklace from Forever 21.  I did a bronze smokey eye, nude lip and messy waves to top off this fall look.  I love how easy and pulled together this combo is.  This outfit could easily go from day to night and its fun with unexpected details like the sheer back and tough shoes.

Honored and Humbled by Style

Sep 18

It is no secret that I love fashion.  It has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember and this little blog has been a way for me to document and share my style successes and failures.

To have people view and read my blog is like a dream come true but to have my personal style noticed and praised is another thing.  I got the call a few weeks ago from the Independant, a local magazine sharing events, local interest stories and fashion articles saying that I would be one of the 6 honorees at this year’s Style Awards.  I was so excited to be included in this great event and a little shocked to be of the few chosen for this great honor.

To give the magazine something to say about me for readers who are interested in learning about my style, I posed with the other winners for photos and completed an interview for use on the night of the event.

With great questions like “Who or What are your style inspirations?” “What are your best tips for shopping and dressing well?” the interview was super fun to share things in person that I share here everyday.  In a nutshell I dress for my body with attention to shapes and colors that flatter my figure and aesthetic.

I prefer to look polished and bold in unexpected color combos, trendy accessories and slightly vintage shapes.  I adore nude shoes and hate red lips, only because I am jealous that I cannot rock this look. (petty I know but hey what can I say…I’m red with envy)

I dressed local and wore a simple 3/4 sleeve sheath dress from Bevo’s of Lafayette in a bold royal blue with orange print fabric. The simple dress was accented by a column of shiny gold buttons down the back adding something special to a simple shape.  Nude wedges from Vertigo gold chain link necklace and bangles and my Michael Kors watch and vintage ring finish up this simple look that definitely communicates my personal style.

While I wish I looked thinner or that my hair was more strategically placed in the photos, I love the way I was portrayed in this article.  I feel completely represented and I am so honored and humbled to be part of this great event promoting a variety of people with different personal style.

Check out the magazine here and don’t forget to mark your calendars for the event on September 19th.

Transitioning Summer to Fall with a Shirtdress

Aug 24

While the rest of the country is gearing up for fall, I am just excited that its not 95 degrees by 7 am here in Louisiana.  So now I can begin the task of transitioning summer pieces into fall or Louisiana’s version of fall easily.

Shirtdress

This look is a bit more casual than I normally wear to work but hey its Friday so I decided to go with it.  I snagged this cute little floral sleeveless shirt dress at Gap (no longer available online) for about $20.  The thing I love about it is the scalloped hem, such a nice little detail that gives the girly floral dress a masculine quality reminiscent of wearing a man’s dress shirt with the shirt tail covering your butt :) The hem shows off a good part of the leg too which marries the feminine and masculine qualities so well.  To give it a bit of shape I cinched in the waist with a cognac colored belt and top the look off with a cropped denim jacket.

Accessories are key here, rather than my normal over the top big gold accessories, I played the look down with more earthy bohemian pieces like leather bracelets around my Michael Kors rose gold watch, a giant stone ring from Forever 21 and a simple key necklace.  A leather Dooney and Burke bag and cognac cone heels finish this casual Friday look for me.

What do you think? How do you transition your favorite summer pieces into fall?

Red and Gold….a Girls Best Friend!

Jun 11

I have always shy ed away from wearing the color red until recently.  I have always been fair complected and some sort of red head so I never thought I could pull it off.  I’ve thrown out of all of the rules and embraced my inner goddess (hehe Shades of Grey reference) and filled my closet with luxurious crimson tones.

Today I am wearing an adorable red pencil skirt from Banana Republic (can’t find online :( ) This little number has a super cute tie detail that adds a girly innocent bow to the waist of the skirt.  I have a white tank tucked into the skirt and have accessorizes with LOTS of gold jewelry.  I am wearing a vintage gold chain link statement necklace and matching bracelet with a few other gold bangles and a rose gold Michael Kors watch. To finish the look I have on my nude patent pumps keeping this sexy and girly look work appropriate.

Coral is my Color!

Jun 07

I adore Coral! There is something about this color that makes me happy.  Its a little bit pink a little bit orange and amazingly inviting and flattering.  I automatically feel tan, thin and sexy when I wear it so I say hey, why not wear it everyday if it makes me feel that way :)

I snagged a super cute little silky shirt dress from Banana Republic (not online :( ) and I could not be happier with it. It is the exact color of my fave essie nail color…tarte deco!  I paired this little easy to wear dress with neutral wedges, gold and turquoise bangles from Forever 21 (b/c turquoise looks amazing with coral…a perfect contrast) my Michael Kors watch, dainty earrings and hot orange nails and toes.  I have to say I adore this look and its perfect for today’s activity, the Komen Acadiana Grantee Luncheon! Here is how I styled it today.
