“Pretty Litttle Liars” by Sara Shepard

Jul 18

I started watching “Pretty Little Liars on ABC Family on Tuesday nights and I thought it was a fun little racy show and with lots of show on a break for the summer I decided to get into it.  I quickly found out that the show was based on a series of books so I bought the first book “Pretty Little Liars”

Good little book.  Very fast read and just as interesting and racy as the show.  The show has already covered what happened in the first book and I am looking forward to the 2nd and 3rd books in order to read something that I haven’t seen yet.

The story is about 4 teenage girls Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer who have grown apart in the aftermath of the disappearance of their friend Alison.  They are brought back together by disturbing text messages, e-mails etc from a person named “A” with information that only Alison knew.  It sounds a little cheesy but its pretty good little teen series.

Check it out and also check the show out on ABC Family on Tuesday at 7 PM.

Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith…ready for it to be over

Jul 13

So I started the “Vampire Diaries” by L.J. Smith last week and this has to be the first ever book to TV series that I can honestly say that the TV series counterpart is better than the book.

“The Vampire Diaries” is the story of Elena Gilbert who lives in the small town of Fell’s Church.  She quickly falls in love with Stefan Salvatore who happens to be a vampire.  The story follows all of the crazy situations that Elena and her friends get into while trying to keep her town and Stefan’s identity safe.

The book is a little bizarre and fake feeling. I know its about vampires and vampires are fake but many elements of the story seem fake.  Also I feel that Elena and Stefan fall in love way to quickly and they have a weird feeling relationship.  You don’t get the “falling” part of falling in love with them….you skip straight to love and it comes off strange.

The TV show is very loosely based on the book series when I say loosely I mean names, small town setting and that is about it.  The TV show is pretty good, exciting, racy etc. but the book series this is one you could skip.

“The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud” by Ben Sherwood

Jul 10

I picked up this book on Tuesday at the bookstore because I had seen the movie trailer for the new movie “Charlie St. Cloud” with Zac Efron.  It seemed like a good story from the trailer so I decided to read the book.

Needless to say this book surpassed my expectations.  It is the story of a man named Charlie St. Cloud who lots his brother in a car accident when they were younger.  It follows St. Cloud in his life following the accident and how he wastes a large portion of his life keeping his promise to his brother.

It seems that the movie is loosely based on the book due to some main differences like age but that said the book was really great. It was the type of book that made me as a reader to feel a variety of feelings, sadness, happiness, longing, anger etc.  The book also had a few little twists which were nice as well.

This book does has a little supernatural feel to it but it by no means fantasy or Sci Fi.  It is a great story of loss and love. Check it out.  Oh also the movie with Zac Efron (how can you resist) is coming out on July 30th.

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

Jul 07

So I have been reading a lot and about a week ago I began reading “Shiver” by Maggie Stiefvater.  It is a story of a girl that falls in love with a werewolf.  Sounds cheesy but this book has to be one of the best written books I have read in a long time.

Stiefvater switches points of view every few chapters back and forth from Grace to Sam who is the werewolf/human.  It is really nice to see each characters point of view and how they truly see each other.  Unlike many teen romance books I think the relationship between Grace and Sam is the most realistic relationship I have seen in fiction in quite a while.  It is refreshing to see an author truly portray what first love feels like and allows grown married women (like myself) to feel the same way I did when I first fell in love by simply reading her words.

I enjoy Teen books becuase I look at reading as entertainment and I want it to be fun and easy.  The author has such a great style of writing that allows the reader to be sucked in very quickly.  I caught myself staying up late to finish the book.  I haven’t felt this way about a book since the Twilight Series and I am very excited to find another book series that I can truly become a part of.

If you haven’t read it check it out.  I think this series will get really big eventually.  We will see. There are already a lot of fansites out there dedicated to this series even though the second book is not due out until later this month.  But definitely check out shiverguy.com this is the same guy who did twilightguy.com which is a cool video blog of a guy’s perspective of reading “girly books.”
