I live in dresses, for work or weekends dresses are my item of choice.  They are comfy, flattering (if you buy the right shape) and easy.  Almost 2 months ago I fell down a few stairs (total clutz I know) and got a horrible, ugly hematoma on my left shin.  The bruising and swelling has been so bad that I have not worn a dress without tights in those two months and it has killed me.

Over the weekend I picked up a super cute little jersey dress by Xilhiliartion, the princess seam skater dress, from Target that was only $15! Spaghetti straps with a fitted bodice, gathered a line skirt and pockets, the best part! So excited to put it on this morning, I completely overlooked the fact that my legs have been completely hidden for most of the winter.  Oh the horror to look down and realize that my legs blend oh so perfectly with the off white color in the dress I loved the look so much that I I wore it anyway, white legs and all.

I am obsessed with statement necklaces.  What is a statement necklace do you ask? Well its an IN YOUR FACE accessory that should be the absolute focal point of your outfit.  Most of the time you see lots of crystals, stones, large proportions and my fave, contrasting colors that really bring these pieces to life.

My look today...Tomato red with sea green.

There are a few rules or tips that can make working these necklaces into your everyday look without looking like you are playing dress up.

1.  Don’t Over Accessorize – If you are going to be wearing a huge stoned necklace don’t over accessorize in other areas.  Large neckalces need their own space, especially if they are busy to start off with.  You don’t want your necklace to have to compete with large or overly intricate earrings.  My rule of thumb is to only have one accessory in each area of your body.  For example if you are wearing a large short necklace, you don’t need earrings, if you have a large hair accessory, earrings or a necklace are not needed.  If you are wearing bracelets on each wrist, cocktail rings are too much etc.

2.  Don’t try to Match – Once of my favorite things about statement necklaces are that they are a “look at me” item.  You don’t want them to blend into your outfit! Try contrasting colors to really make a statement, blue with orange, green with tomato red, pink with army green etc.  The sky is the limit! Such a great way to experiment on a small scale with color contrasting.

3.  Start Simple- If this trend is new for you don’t start out mixing a lime green 3 lb necklace with a leopard dress and striped tights! Try out your neck jewels with a simple white tee, jeans and wedges, you are sure to get noticed without stopping traffic.

4.  Don’t be Afraid – This is a trend that some people are really afraid to try out because they are afraid to branch out.  If people see you questioning your fashion choice they will be focused on it too and not in a good way.  Be confident and everyone will notice how amazing you look.  Don’t be surprised if you see Judy from Accounting rocking a statement necklace next week as an homage to your style.  Confidence is key, as long as you look comfortable in your accessory everyone will notice you in a good way.

18 months ago I did a post about a photo I found of Kourtney Kardashian wearing this amazing leopard scarf.  What was so amazing about it you ask? It had a beautiful color palate of tan, brown and black no tacky orange that you normally see in leopard and the print was large and graphic.  My post about this leopard scarf has been my number 2 most viewed post to date, so you know its special.

I was on the search for this scarf, it would be the perfect addition to my wardrobe.  Needless to say I never found the one she was looking for.  It was from Zara and all of my online searches came back with nothing.

Last week I went into New York and Company to purchase a dress for our family pictures coming up.  I had a coupon for $75 off of $150.  I purchased two dressed coming to around $130 so I sent my friend all over the store searching for the perfect $20 item to bring my total to where it needed to be to get my discount.  As she was looking I noticed the scarf from afar and left the line immediately, could it be THE scarf that I had been looking for? Yes it was and it was $20, it was perfect and meant to be.  I snatched it right up and have not looked back.

I wore the scare yesterday with a pair of black equestrian leggings, a black tunic tank and sandals.  I felt super chic and got lots of compliments.  The scarf looks way more expenisive that $20 and its really versatile.  I can see it easily paired with jeans and a tee or a cocktail dress.

These are a few of my favorite things…

The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins- I got wind of this series of books from my favorite aunt and I absolutely devoured the three books within the series.  The stories are written so well that forces you to read quickly and intently.  The author does such a great job conveying the feelings of the heroine through her words, when Katniss (the main character) was hungry, I was hungry, when she was thirsty I was thirsty.  Imagine a futuristic (but not sci fi) version of the lottery with a little love triangle, deceit, grief and more and you have The Hunger Games.  I just found out that this book series will be made into a movie…this is a series of books that would make a great presentation on film…I look forward to it.

Zumba – I am in love with this fitness craze.  I am the type of person that doesn’t like doing cardio unless its fun and I have found my way about that.  Normally Zumba is a latin dance class with fairly easy movements and combinations that almost anyone can pick up on.  My favorite part of the class is the fast paced nature.  You are not forced to learn combinations by eight counts you basically follow along as the song comes on and there is no way to get bored.  The teacher that I go to uses not only Latin music but other high energy dance songs that are familiar and popular so alot of the times in the class I feel like I am dancing at a club with other women.  Another thing about this class is that I always want a margarita afterwards which defeats the purpose of working out.

Essie “Tart Deco” - In love with this color.  Its a nice summer color, a corally bright tone that looks great on nails and toes and makes anyone look tan.  I paired mine with a turquoise nail and glitter, its really fun and Essie’s polishes are always top notch

Feather Earrings – I know feathers are very trendy right now but I love the look of a pair of earrings that are almost the same colors as your hair, its a nice touch to hair that is wavy and tousled, its unexpected, which I enjoy.

Nicki Minaj – I adore this girl, not only her crazy outfits and hair choices but her persona and music. She is cute and quirky in a world that is normally hard.  She bring femininity to the hip hop world and she makes me want to be a rap princess…just sayin.

Marc Jacobs Katie Rose Gold Bracelet – I am dying over this bracelet.  It is such a classic peice in an unexpected color that works so well with my skin tone and hair color and to me the rose gold tone makes for such a richer peice.  This item would look great paired with jeans and tee or an evening gown…so versatile.

H&M lace bra – On my recent trip I was able to shop at an H&M and I was absolutely flabbergasted at their PJ and lingerie section.  The bras were such great quality for a super cheap price.  I was able to pick up a greige lace bra in my size! for only $14.99 how can you beat that?

Fiber One Brownies – These little brownies are a great chocolate trade off. They are two points plus values and while they are not terrbily large they taste like real brownies and would be amazing with FF cool whip or ice cream They come in chocolate and peanut butter and can be found in the granola bar / cereal aisle.

At any given time I have at least 10 items on my “favorite things” list.  I think this comes along with being a shopaholic :/

Happy Endings on ABC – This new show on ABC literally made me laugh out loud last week. It is a modern twist on Friends.  It follows 6 friends in their late twenties/early thirties which makes me happy, finally a comedy on TV that is focused on my age range. Don’t get me wrong, I love 90210 and Vampire Diaries but lets be honest sometimes episodes about prom and spring break and sexy vampires can make girls like me a bit bitter.
