A Few Favorite Things – Winter

Jan 15

I feel like all I can post about lately are things that I love. I am so busy with work and kids and life that expressing my opinions about products/things that I adore seem to be the only things that my brain can handle right now. That being said, check out a few of my new and not so new favorite things right now.

Favorties - Winter

Lush Ambrosia - If you haven’t tried any of Lush’s products you are truly missing out.  All natural cosmetics and skin care items for men and women…what’s not to love.  Ambrosia is a shave lotion for super sensitive skin (which I have) that smells super clean and neutral and works wonders on keeping stubble soft and smooth.

Rhianna’s Unapologetic – I love Rhianna, she is super talented, smokin hot and her songs are eclectic yet catchy.  This entire albulm is amazing with duets with Eminem and Chris Brown (ugh) Its one of those albums that you can listen to the entire thing and cry, get pissed off and have a glitter throwing dance party all within an hour or so…

T Strap Flats from Forever 21 - One word…obsessed.  I love anything girly with a vintage feel and these little T strap closed toe flats are amazing.  Sweet blush tone with a big beautiful bow.  Can’t want to wear them with shorts, dresses or a little lace skirt in the spring.

Gold Chain Headband – I often have a hard time pulling off hair accessories without looking like I am trying to hard to look like pre teen.  This little chain headband is super chic and would look super sophisticated with hair down in loose waves or as a part of a super structured pony.

Cranberry Orange Muffins – Kind of random, yes but I love them.  So tart and not overly sweet.  I don’t eat them often b/c most muffins are gigantic and pack in more calories than a bacon and egg breakfast but when I do I always search for these mouth puckering confections.

Urban Outfitters Lace Cheeky - Gotta love a sexy panty that is also practical and comfortable. Not only are these little cheekies fairly seamless but they ride in exactly the correct spot and are super comfortable underneath anything, jeans, dresses, PJs; you name it. I love them in jewel tones like this oxblood pair or dark navy.

Black Leather Bow Gloves – What girly girl doesn’t love a bow.  Leather gloves are often pretty boring but these sweet little black gloves are super special with a simple keyhole and bow at the wrist.  Such a great detail to make this classic winter accessory sweet and unique.

Girls on HBO – While doing chores the other day I put on the first season of Girls and I have to say that I am in love.  It is the most honest writing I have ever seen.  It made me laugh, get angry and literally cringe about that time in my life.

What are your faves right now?

Sweaters, Boots…It must be fall?

Oct 16

The temperatures are getting a bit cooler and that means changing up staple pieces in your wardrobe for fall.

Today I am wearing a jersey pencil skirt in tan/black large stripes, one of my new favorite pieces by the way! So comfortable and flattering, hugs all the right things and is extremely easy to style.  I topped by skirt off with an oversized 3/4 black sweater with a fun back detail, its sheer! If I wouldn’t be at work it would be fun to wear only a black bra under and show that off from the back but hey girls gotta be office appropriate.  Because my summer tan is long gone, I covered some of the whiteness with a new pair of short velvetty black platform wedge booties that I got last week during lunch break shopping.

I am accessorized with gold bangles, Michael Kors watch (surprise, surprise) and a long gold leaf necklace from Forever 21.  I did a bronze smokey eye, nude lip and messy waves to top off this fall look.  I love how easy and pulled together this combo is.  This outfit could easily go from day to night and its fun with unexpected details like the sheer back and tough shoes.

Stripes and Sheer!

Polka Dots and a Peplum, Vintage Minnie Mouse

Sep 12

I am usually opposed to pairing tons of trends together but I made an exception today and I am really happy with the result.

For my look today I paired a super skinny polka dot pencil skirt with a red peplum top.  A black stone statement necklace and nude pumps finish the it off for a look that is very Minnie Mouse in a modern way.  I love that this look includes a classic and vintage inspired shape with a fun modern twist with the textiles used. The price doesn’t hurt my love for this look either, everything is from Forever 21 so the total look without shoes and watch comes in under $50!

Transitioning Summer to Fall with a Shirtdress

Aug 24

While the rest of the country is gearing up for fall, I am just excited that its not 95 degrees by 7 am here in Louisiana.  So now I can begin the task of transitioning summer pieces into fall or Louisiana’s version of fall easily.

Shirtdress

This look is a bit more casual than I normally wear to work but hey its Friday so I decided to go with it.  I snagged this cute little floral sleeveless shirt dress at Gap (no longer available online) for about $20.  The thing I love about it is the scalloped hem, such a nice little detail that gives the girly floral dress a masculine quality reminiscent of wearing a man’s dress shirt with the shirt tail covering your butt :) The hem shows off a good part of the leg too which marries the feminine and masculine qualities so well.  To give it a bit of shape I cinched in the waist with a cognac colored belt and top the look off with a cropped denim jacket.

Accessories are key here, rather than my normal over the top big gold accessories, I played the look down with more earthy bohemian pieces like leather bracelets around my Michael Kors rose gold watch, a giant stone ring from Forever 21 and a simple key necklace.  A leather Dooney and Burke bag and cognac cone heels finish this casual Friday look for me.

What do you think? How do you transition your favorite summer pieces into fall?

My Favorite Summer Things…

Jul 27

Let’s be honest, summer doesn’t have the same appeal as an adult as it did as a kid.  Work doesn’t care that its sunny outside or that you really want to just hang out by the pool or catch a movie or lunch with friends.  So I decided to compile all of the things that recently have me feeling like a fat kid with a Popsicle on a hot summer day.

Favorite Things - Summer

1.  Cute, Cheap Accessories – Ok so this is not really just a summer thing, I am always in favor of cute and cheap accessories.  I snagged this super cute little gold medallion with the words “Oui Oui” enscribed on it from Forever 21.  For those of you that don’t know it means “Yes, Yes” in French (Thanks 15 hours of college French!) Kind of random but super cute and only $3.80 can’t beat that for a cute little conversation starter that looks super cute with almost anything and adds a little easy going attitude to any outfit.

2.  Cucumber Martinis – Well any cucumber cocktail to be honest.  I was introduced to cucumber margaritas a year or so ago and on a recent trip to Dallas I had my first cucumber martini…AMAZING! Not only is it super refreshing and light, you feel a little healthy drinking it and don’t forget that you are basically getting in a vegetable serving with the garnish, SCORE! No honestly the flavor of cucumber goes so nicely with gin (I don’t even normally like gin) and even vodka.  I have tried making these at home…not bad but its best to leave them to the professionals, it will give you a chance to get dressed up and order the 2012 version of the Sex and the City Cosmo.

3.  The Olympics – I have LOVED  the summer Olympics for as long as I can remember.  I did gymnastics as a kid and there will always be a part of me that likes to pretend that I was an elite gymnast on my way to the Olympics.  I mean who doesn’t remember some epic Olympic triumph with tears in their eyes…Kerri Strug, one legged landing, say no more! No honestly I love everything about the Olympics, national pride, amazing and entertaining sports events, exposure and appreciation for unknown sports and the tears…The opening ceremony is tonight and I cannot wait.  I will have on my super cute burnout torch tee that I picked up at Old Navy cheering on Team USA for the next few weeks!

4.  Barely There Underwear - My momma always taught me to wear full butt panties.  I am litterally one of the only people I know not to wear thongs and I like it that way.  I wear lots of dresses for work that require me to wear Spanx or some sort of seamless undergarmet so that you can’t see lines all over the place.  Now that I am a bit thinner and no longer need Spanx with everything (woo hoo!) these little seamless boyshorts are amazing.  I picked up two pair to try them out and after wearing them I went right back and bought 4 more pair.  I have coined them as “work panties” they are seamless (kind of like double layered panty hose material) don’t show under your clothes, not restricting like Spanx and they are way more attractive than a crotchless girdle like contraption from knees to boobs.  They are about $8 t $10 a pair which is not super cheap but they are worth every penny!

5.  Quirky Note Cards - I litterally have a drawer full of note cards for all occassions, no seriously I have like 15 to 20 different styles.  There is something really special about sending someone a random card in the mail for no readon with a silly, funny message.  Some of my favorite ones say things like “WTF” “Greetings from Crazyville” and “Hello” I normally pick mine up at Target or small specialty stores when I find them but they have ocmpletely replaced every other card I used to buy, Birthday cards, thank yous etc.  Fun and functional!

6.  Sephora’s Foundation Primer - I have tried tons of primers but I got this one as a sample and I love it.  It makes my skin so smooth and matte before putting on my foundation which makes it really stay put.  With this hot weather in Louisiana, primer like this is key in keeping my makeup looking good from morning until night.

7.  Pilates on the Go – I love doing Pilates but I don’t always have access to my dvds or a class to attend so these little breakdowns of simple combos of standard Pilates exercises make is easy to get my workout in on the go.  I have a ton of these pinned on Pinterest for quick reference and I can easily combine them for a full work out if I have time and I can do them wherever I am, in a hotel room, in the park (ok I may look a little silly) or at home.
