Finding Words to Fit

Dec 29

I have a very vivacious, dramatic and equally adorable almost two year old little girl.  Every day this little person challenges me in more ways than I ever thought possible but with each challenge and frustrating situation I can’t help but laugh at her or squeeze her tight for being so cute. Because of her larger than life personality I want her room to reflect who she is as a person at this point in her life and I am having a bit of difficulty finding decor to fit.

We recently put Luna in her “big girl” bed (post coming soon) and I have been on the hunt for wall art to complete her room.  I love the idea of having a quote print framed that fits her little personality.  I began my search on Pintrest b/c in the past I have seen these quote prints 100s of times but now that I am really looking for one I cannot find what I am looking for. So then I start to think that I may have created what I want in my mind and it doesn’t actually exist, which is a huge problem.

I don’t think that my criteria are that hard to meet but let’s see what you think.

1. Color Scheme – I would love something that is vintage-y colored to match her rustic white furniture.  So muted tones of white/beige, turquoise, coral and yellow would be preferable.  Something like the color schemes of the photos in this post.

2.  Font/Style – I want something that looks “designed” not something that looks like I typed it up in Word, slapped in on a solid background and called it a day.  I love fonts, shadows, effects that only a designer can do.

3.  Quote – Here is the tough part, finding a quote that matches her personality, that is not overly childish and that comes in the colors/fonts/styles that I want from above.  The main problem is that I can find items in the color/style I want but the quotes don’t fit.  Here are my top picks for quotes:

“I’m just trying to change the world one sequin at a time.” -Lady Gaga

“You have to be unique, and different, and shine in your own way.”  -Lady Gaga

“Don’t you ever let a soul in the world tell you that you can’t be exactly who you are.”  -Lady Gaga

“I’ve always been famous, it’s just no one knew it yet.” -Lady Gaga

“Some girls were just born with glitter in their veins.” -Paris Hilton

“Well behaved women rarely make history” -Marilyn Monroe

“I always thought I should be treated like a star.” -Madonna

“Don’t just stand there let’s get to it. Strike a pose, there’s nothing to it.”  -Madonna

“A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.” -Coco Chanel

So what do you guys think…did I make this up? b/c I cannot find what I am looking for anywhere.

Hopefully I can find words to fit my little lady’s huge personality!

Paint Chip Art DIY Tutorial

Sep 19

The amazing pintrest.com has recently inspired me to become crafty.  If you haven’t checked out Pintrest.com make sure you sign up and start pinning.  Its basically a site that allows you to bookmark all of the amazing images and ideas you find online and organize them into inspiration boards.

So to start off my craftiness I decided to make a birthday gift for a 7 year old girl…she would be forgiving of my first project.  I saw all these amazing projects online using paint chips as art….I was amazed.  I started thinking…I can do that..so I did and here is what you need.

  • Paint Chips from Home Depot, Lowes etc – stolen aka $0
  • Canvas – I used an 8 x 10 canvas and I got a two pack for like $4 on sale so it was $2 for the one project
  • Wooden Letter – $1.99 Hobby Lobby
  • Paint – I used acrylic paint I already had
  • Mod Podge – amazing stuff I used it as adhesive and top coat $6.49 for the bottle
  • Foam Brush – I had one on hand but these are like $0.35 at Hobby Lobby
  • Ribbon – I was going to hang the canvas with ribbon but in the end I didn’t need it (Optional)

First figure out with kind of design you are going for.  My paint chips were slightly rectangular so I decided to go easy and do a geometric grid.  I cut off the names of the paint colors on the chips and made sure all of my chips were roughly the same size. I also painted my letter at this point and gave it one coat of Mod Podge to give it some glossiness.

Next brush on the Mod podge onto your cavas and begin laying your paint chips and press down as you go.  Other sites used spray adhesive for this part and I think that is a great idea….the wetness of the Mod Podge made some of my paint chips want to curl so I think the dryness of the spray would work better for laying the chips down.  Continue this step until your canvas is covered in a design you like.

Once your design is complete and your canvas is covered brush a layer of Mod Podge over the entire thing, don’t worry it will dry clear.  Come back in an hour or so and do another coat until you are happy with the look and texture of the piece, I did 3 coats.  During this process I had to have some help holding down some edges as they wanted to curl so I used Binder clips to keep my paint chips flush with the side of the canvas and it worked pretty well.

When my Mod Podge was all dry (about 24 hours later) I glued my letter E on with a little crazy glue and TADA done! Originally I was going to use some ribbon to use as a hanger but I thought it looked too busy.

All in all this was a pretty easy and inexpensive project.  I spend around $11 for this one project but that is including the huge bottle of Mod Podge that is going to last through lots of other projects.  Another great thing is that I was able to give a really unique gift that was handmade and Emma really loved it.

What do you guys think? Do you think this is something that you could try?

2.  Elliot Lucca Giselle Satchel tote, $189 I came across Elliot Lucca bags after seeing Aria, a character from Pretty Little Liars, were a great metallic backpack on an episode of the show. 7.  Qupid beige wedge, $42 I love wedges, especially tan wedges…I honestly think I own at least 8 pair of tan/neutral wedges but these super cute Qupid ones look crazy comfortable and super chic. They would look great with dresses or pants.

Feb 08

Coral is going to be everywhere Spring 2011 from lipsticks to shoes to handbags and more.  What other color screams SPRING more than coral?

A few tips on this awesome but sometimes scary to wear color.

1. Pair it with neutrals – Don’t try pairing it with other brights….you will look like a clown.  It looks great with khaki, white, denim, black any netural really

2.  Choose a Coral that works with your skintone – Some corals or more pink, some or more orange.  Try the different shades of coral and see what words for you.

3.  Try something small first – Maybe its just painting your toes coral, this little bit of color will give you some time to allow yourself to adjust to the color and determine whether its “you” or not with little to no investment.

4.  Have Fun with it – Coral is such a happy, fun color…how can you not have fun while wearing it.

Perfect Christmas Stocking Fom Etsy.com

Nov 23

I have dreamed of having a little girl for as long as I can remember.  Last February I was blessed to complete my family with a

perfect little girl Luna Jane.  With Christmas quickly approaching I began to realize that my husband, son and my self all have super cute personalized stockings for Christmas and Luna doesn’t.

I bought our stockings a few years ago at Hobby Lobby for a super cheap price and I dressed them up with names monogrammed on the top.  These stockings are a whimsical red and white wavy stripe with a curly white font with the names, Mom, Dad and Bailor at the top.  I love them and they go so great with my decor.

My plan was to find two similar stockings in more girly colors like pink and lime and those would be the girls stockings.  Boy was I disapointed when I realized that I had created these stockings in my head and they were no where to be found.  I began searching etsy.com for a unique stocking for Luna Jane and myself.  After going through over 40 pages of to die for Christmas decor I found a perfect stocking for my little diva.

The price was a little high to purchase two so I decided to keep mine and allow my little girl to stand out…just like she always does.  I purchased a super cute Red & White Dandie Dots Christmas Stocking for Luna.  i thought that the curly ribbon on the top of the stocking was as unique as my sweet girl and reminded me of curly pigtails.

This stocking with monogram and shipping came in at under $30 which I think was a great price for this beautifully handmade peice.

What do you think? Do you think I made a good choice.  Check out all of snazzique’s items.
