Copy Michelle Obama’s DNC Nail Look

Oct 01

No matter what side of the fence you are on, you have to admit that we have one absolutely beautiful first lady.  Young, fresh and modern in her fashion choices many criticize her for not looking like a traditional first lady. This is one of the main things that I love about her.  She did not sacrifice her personal style just because her husband is the president and I think that is extremely noble.

After the Democratic National Convention, I, along with millions of others were absolutely obsessed with Michelle’s nail color on the first night.  It was an unexpected neutral, a cross between gray and lavender that somehow worked with her look without being matchy which is one of my faves when it comes to nail color.

Her actual color was a gel/salon polish but I have been successful in finding a great substitute.  Essie’s Merino Cool is a grayish tone with a lavender tone.  It seems like an odd color to wear but its so versatile and works so well with blues, grays, nudes and so much more. This is a great addition to any fall nail color collection!

What do you think of this color? Is this something that you would wear?

With a mix of dark and light pink shades and an amazing chunky glitter shade, any pink loving girl needs a bottle of Vintage Minnie in her collection of nail polish.

Pantone’s Color of the Year, Tangerine Tango… Obsessed!

Mar 30

I am OBSESSED with brights this spring which is odd for me b/c I am normally a neutrals kinda girl but there is something about Pantone’s color of the year for 2012, Tangerine Tango, that has me smitten.

The color is upbeat, happy and amazingly easy to wear.  Its a cross between a reddish orange (not quite tomato) and a coral (but not so pink) You’ve probably seen it popping up all over the place in fabric stores, Sephora, your fave clothing store and more.

I am in love and all I can say is that my birthday wishlist this year will be filled with Tangerine items.

Tangerine in the new black!

Check out a few tantilizing tangerine items in my set below aren’t they to die for???

Nail Polish Obsession

Nail Polish Obsession

I have been a nail biter for most of my 26 years of life.  My good friend Megan introduced me to OPI nail polish 2 years ago before a wedding.  I always noticed her nail polish and how “together” she looked no matter what she was wearing and honestly her nail polish had a lot to do with that…and so the obsession began.

I started out simple with lots of neutrals and then branched out into other muted tones.  Fairly recently I started adding reds, oranges and other warm tones to my collection and lots of glitters! During this two year period of my obsession I have a huge collection of over 30 nail polishes (mostly OPI and Sephora colors) numerous accessories and decals and a new way to express my style everyday!

My collection is listed below with my favorite of each group of colors pictured on the right.  I also top each manicure/pedicure with Hoof Lacquer…by far the best $3 I have ever spent

My Favorite Things

Jun 30

These are a few of my favorite things……

Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin – I started this book about a week ago and read a crazy amount of it on my flight to California last week and I am completely enthralled.  There is nothing better than a book that sucks you in, a book that you don’t want to go to sleep because you feel you may miss something.  I’m not quite finished with it yet but I am excited to see where this book and the sequels go.  I love rooting for the underdog.

Glittered Nail Polish - I don’t normally wear glittered nail polish but I love the look of painting one nail (normally the ring finger nail) with a sheer subtle glitter polish.  It adds something special to your manicure.  I recently used Essie’s Ballet Slippers, a subtle whitish pink with an iridescent glitter, it was sweet and chic all at the same time.

Fresh Strawberries – Summer is always so amazing becuase of the amazing fruit the is available.  Strawberries are definitely my favorite.  I buy 2 to 3 lbs at one time and we eat them with every meal.  My children would rather have strawberries than candy and I can’t blame them.  Pair them with a sandwich instead of chips, have them as dessert or blend them with a margarita..anyway they are served I am dying over them right now.

Orange Candle from AnthropologieOrange is one of my favorite scents, its super clean without being perfumy.  This candle is in a beautiful tin and is so fragrant.  I have my candle on my desk at work and it just seems to make my day so much better

The Big C on Showtime – I came across the first season of this show on Showtime on Demand and I am kinda loving it.  Laura Linney plays a middle aged mom and wife that is hiding the fact that she is dying of stage 4 melanoma.  The show is extremely honest, funny and heartbreaking all at the same time.  Check it out on Showtime on Mondays at 9:30.

What do you think of my favorite things? What are your faves right now? Share them with me on facebook or tweet them to me @mlj2374. I’d love to hear from you!
