Sweaters, Boots…It must be fall?

Oct 16

The temperatures are getting a bit cooler and that means changing up staple pieces in your wardrobe for fall.

Today I am wearing a jersey pencil skirt in tan/black large stripes, one of my new favorite pieces by the way! So comfortable and flattering, hugs all the right things and is extremely easy to style.  I topped by skirt off with an oversized 3/4 black sweater with a fun back detail, its sheer! If I wouldn’t be at work it would be fun to wear only a black bra under and show that off from the back but hey girls gotta be office appropriate.  Because my summer tan is long gone, I covered some of the whiteness with a new pair of short velvetty black platform wedge booties that I got last week during lunch break shopping.

I am accessorized with gold bangles, Michael Kors watch (surprise, surprise) and a long gold leaf necklace from Forever 21.  I did a bronze smokey eye, nude lip and messy waves to top off this fall look.  I love how easy and pulled together this combo is.  This outfit could easily go from day to night and its fun with unexpected details like the sheer back and tough shoes.

Stripes and Sheer!

Lunch Break Shopping – Fall Finds

Oct 11

Ok so we had our first cool snap in Louisiana this week and I was stuck dressing my kids in clothes from last year that were too short, too tight, you get the picture….So I felt terrible for sending my kids off to school/daycare looking like a pair of hot messes so I grabbed a few things online to make sure that they would look cute in the cool days to come.

For Luna I picked up lots of printed henleys, long sleeve tees, a few hooded tunics and dresses, leggings, sparkly cords and heart patch jeans.  There is a lot of print here but I did buy solids too, just not fun to show off solids.  Old Navy has great stuff that is super cheap that you don’t feel bad about ruining by sending her to play at daycare in the pieces. I am really excited for her to rock her Toms boots that I picked up for her a few weeks ago with these adorable fall looks.

Lunch Break Shopping October Week 2 - Luna

So I realize now it looks like I went a little cray cray for Luna and poor Bailor didn’t get anything. The truth is that Bailor goes to school with uniforms so he only needs clothes for weekends and lets be honest there just aren’t many options for boys.  Another issue is that Bailor is at an in between age.  He is 6, almost 7 so he is out of the kiddy boys clothes but a lot of times the big boy blothes don’t offer XS which is what he needs.  So he got a few waffle print graphic tees in bright colors and a cute gray zip up sweater that will look cute with uniforms or even with a button down underneath for something a bit more dressy.

For me I grabbed a few new fall-esque dresses, metallic pencil,  jersey pencil skirt, jersey blazer (really excited about this) and a few pairs of wedges and booties.  I am pretty excited about the hounds tooth peplum dress as the black/print number is way out of what I normally buy and I think it could be pretty versatile if styled correctly.

Lunch Break Shopping – Shoe Edition

Sep 20

I love shoes, there is something that just makes me amazingly happy about purchasing shoes. Maybe its the act of trying them on, knowing that no matter what you had to eat that day they will fit or maybe its the fact that they have their own little box or dust bag to keep them safe and sound when not in use :) Either way I LOVE shoes which is clear based on my recent lunch break shopping trip where I purchased nothing but shoes! (Have you checked out my challenge from last February to wear a different pair of shoes everyday?)

I stopped at a few little local boutiques the other day on my lunch break actually on the lookout for a new dress for an upcoming event but instead found shoes lots of shoes.

Shoes

Madeline Girl Suede T Strap Wedge – I couldn’t pass up this super cute (on sale) brown suede wedge.  So cute with dresses, jeans, shorts etc.  I neutral color is right up my ally and goes into my collection of nude/neutral wedges and heels.  I think these will look adorable with tights for fall and can’t wait until the weather allows me to wear them that way.  For a sale price of $38 at Shoe La La, I couldn’t pass up this great addition to my shoe wardrobe.

Bamboo Lace Up Wedge Bootie – These little greige suede (ish) booties are going to be some of my faves for fall.  So versatile and comfy they can be paired with almost anything and add a cute casual vibe to any outfit.  I snagged these for about $46 at Vertigo in River Ranch and I am obsessed with them already.

Tiny Toms Woven Botas in Pink – These little booties are going to be perfect for Luna for fall.  My sweet girl loves shoes just as much as me and when she saw these in the box she insisted on putting them on right then, of course I obliged and she wore them with her PJ’s for the next two hours. For only $22 on sale from a local shop, Shoe La La was great find!

Color Block platform pump - I couldn’t find these online to show but I found an adorable color block peep toe pump at Vertigo.  Ivory leather body with a gray suede platform, black heed and black mary jane esque strap.  Super high yet super comfy.

Honored and Humbled by Style

Sep 18

It is no secret that I love fashion.  It has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember and this little blog has been a way for me to document and share my style successes and failures.

To have people view and read my blog is like a dream come true but to have my personal style noticed and praised is another thing.  I got the call a few weeks ago from the Independant, a local magazine sharing events, local interest stories and fashion articles saying that I would be one of the 6 honorees at this year’s Style Awards.  I was so excited to be included in this great event and a little shocked to be of the few chosen for this great honor.

To give the magazine something to say about me for readers who are interested in learning about my style, I posed with the other winners for photos and completed an interview for use on the night of the event.

With great questions like “Who or What are your style inspirations?” “What are your best tips for shopping and dressing well?” the interview was super fun to share things in person that I share here everyday.  In a nutshell I dress for my body with attention to shapes and colors that flatter my figure and aesthetic.

I prefer to look polished and bold in unexpected color combos, trendy accessories and slightly vintage shapes.  I adore nude shoes and hate red lips, only because I am jealous that I cannot rock this look. (petty I know but hey what can I say…I’m red with envy)

I dressed local and wore a simple 3/4 sleeve sheath dress from Bevo’s of Lafayette in a bold royal blue with orange print fabric. The simple dress was accented by a column of shiny gold buttons down the back adding something special to a simple shape.  Nude wedges from Vertigo gold chain link necklace and bangles and my Michael Kors watch and vintage ring finish up this simple look that definitely communicates my personal style.

While I wish I looked thinner or that my hair was more strategically placed in the photos, I love the way I was portrayed in this article.  I feel completely represented and I am so honored and humbled to be part of this great event promoting a variety of people with different personal style.

Check out the magazine here and don’t forget to mark your calendars for the event on September 19th.

Polka Dots and a Peplum, Vintage Minnie Mouse

Sep 12

I am usually opposed to pairing tons of trends together but I made an exception today and I am really happy with the result.

For my look today I paired a super skinny polka dot pencil skirt with a red peplum top.  A black stone statement necklace and nude pumps finish the it off for a look that is very Minnie Mouse in a modern way.  I love that this look includes a classic and vintage inspired shape with a fun modern twist with the textiles used. The price doesn’t hurt my love for this look either, everything is from Forever 21 so the total look without shoes and watch comes in under $50!
