Birthday Wishlist

Apr 16

I absolutely adore birthdays! They are a super special day that is completely for you, whats not to like.

This year I am obsessed with all things outdoor, grilling, active wear and more.

birthday wishlist

Gray Chevron Chair - What’s not to love about this little simple chair.  The white and gray chevron print would work so well in so many places in my house and the shape and armless structure makes it a  peice that fits without taking up too much space.  I would put this in my new living room as an accompanyment to my vintage sewing table….maybe it would make be get back to sewing :/

Grilling Accessories - I recently bought a gas grill for myself and I am in LOVE.  It so simple, quick, super healthy and my kitchen stays cool and clean.  These cute tongs, skewers and grill pan are a great addition to my new manly hobby.

Outdoor Umbrella and Chair Cushions - With spring in the air, my outdoor furniture set is not looking so springy.  The addition of some color through a new fun striped umbrella and chair cushions would totally rejuvenate my patio furniture and with a print like that who wouldn’t want to sit outside to enjoy some great grilled food and a cocktail.

Mirror StripsThis super modern strips of mirror are so unexpected and different.  I would love these in my office mixed in with my other frames giving just a little bit of personal style to my work space.

Funky Photo FrameI love photos and this photo mobile would be a great addition to my office to help display photos of all of my favorite people.

Lodis Business Card Holder - I got one of these as a gift and I LOVE it but I recently broke it from stuffing too much stuff into it :( The quality of this business card holder is amazing and the unique look and color combo is girlie and fun while being professional.

Active WearI have been working my ass off at barre class and it doesn’t hurt to look cute while you work out.  I love these little blousy work out tops, so comfy and flattering!

Barre Classes – Like I said, I have been rocking it at barre and I can always use more classes or additions to my membership, healthiness is the greatest gift right?

Do you have any specific things you like to wish for on your birthday?

Fall Look Feature Blues & Birds

Sep 11

While the rest of the country is experiencing the beginnings of fall weather, here in Louisiana, we are just happy to be out of the 90s for a change.  I start my fallish look today with an adorable dress I snagged at Target for about $13 (I know, crazy right)

There are so many things right with this dress, its light, airy, beautifully printed and colored and it features a high low hem which is super hot right now. One of my fave elements is the neckline, not only is it accented with orange, which is my favorite accent to bluish gray, its got a sweetheart neckline that is sheer so it gives off a sweet and sexy vibe that I adore.

I topped the dress with a denim jacket (to make it appropriate for the office) and accessorized with a cognac belt and cone heels to give a masculine edge to this girly dress.  Finished off with a blue/gray smokey eye, nails in OPI’s Break a Legwarmer from the Urban Ballerina collection,  stone ring and gold jewelry and this look has flown right into fall.

What do you think of this look? What are some of your favorite looks for the beginning of fall?

My Favorite Summer Things…

Jul 27

Let’s be honest, summer doesn’t have the same appeal as an adult as it did as a kid.  Work doesn’t care that its sunny outside or that you really want to just hang out by the pool or catch a movie or lunch with friends.  So I decided to compile all of the things that recently have me feeling like a fat kid with a Popsicle on a hot summer day.

Favorite Things - Summer

1.  Cute, Cheap Accessories – Ok so this is not really just a summer thing, I am always in favor of cute and cheap accessories.  I snagged this super cute little gold medallion with the words “Oui Oui” enscribed on it from Forever 21.  For those of you that don’t know it means “Yes, Yes” in French (Thanks 15 hours of college French!) Kind of random but super cute and only $3.80 can’t beat that for a cute little conversation starter that looks super cute with almost anything and adds a little easy going attitude to any outfit.

2.  Cucumber Martinis – Well any cucumber cocktail to be honest.  I was introduced to cucumber margaritas a year or so ago and on a recent trip to Dallas I had my first cucumber martini…AMAZING! Not only is it super refreshing and light, you feel a little healthy drinking it and don’t forget that you are basically getting in a vegetable serving with the garnish, SCORE! No honestly the flavor of cucumber goes so nicely with gin (I don’t even normally like gin) and even vodka.  I have tried making these at home…not bad but its best to leave them to the professionals, it will give you a chance to get dressed up and order the 2012 version of the Sex and the City Cosmo.

3.  The Olympics – I have LOVED  the summer Olympics for as long as I can remember.  I did gymnastics as a kid and there will always be a part of me that likes to pretend that I was an elite gymnast on my way to the Olympics.  I mean who doesn’t remember some epic Olympic triumph with tears in their eyes…Kerri Strug, one legged landing, say no more! No honestly I love everything about the Olympics, national pride, amazing and entertaining sports events, exposure and appreciation for unknown sports and the tears…The opening ceremony is tonight and I cannot wait.  I will have on my super cute burnout torch tee that I picked up at Old Navy cheering on Team USA for the next few weeks!

4.  Barely There Underwear - My momma always taught me to wear full butt panties.  I am litterally one of the only people I know not to wear thongs and I like it that way.  I wear lots of dresses for work that require me to wear Spanx or some sort of seamless undergarmet so that you can’t see lines all over the place.  Now that I am a bit thinner and no longer need Spanx with everything (woo hoo!) these little seamless boyshorts are amazing.  I picked up two pair to try them out and after wearing them I went right back and bought 4 more pair.  I have coined them as “work panties” they are seamless (kind of like double layered panty hose material) don’t show under your clothes, not restricting like Spanx and they are way more attractive than a crotchless girdle like contraption from knees to boobs.  They are about $8 t $10 a pair which is not super cheap but they are worth every penny!

5.  Quirky Note Cards - I litterally have a drawer full of note cards for all occassions, no seriously I have like 15 to 20 different styles.  There is something really special about sending someone a random card in the mail for no readon with a silly, funny message.  Some of my favorite ones say things like “WTF” “Greetings from Crazyville” and “Hello” I normally pick mine up at Target or small specialty stores when I find them but they have ocmpletely replaced every other card I used to buy, Birthday cards, thank yous etc.  Fun and functional!

6.  Sephora’s Foundation Primer - I have tried tons of primers but I got this one as a sample and I love it.  It makes my skin so smooth and matte before putting on my foundation which makes it really stay put.  With this hot weather in Louisiana, primer like this is key in keeping my makeup looking good from morning until night.

7.  Pilates on the Go – I love doing Pilates but I don’t always have access to my dvds or a class to attend so these little breakdowns of simple combos of standard Pilates exercises make is easy to get my workout in on the go.  I have a ton of these pinned on Pinterest for quick reference and I can easily combine them for a full work out if I have time and I can do them wherever I am, in a hotel room, in the park (ok I may look a little silly) or at home.

What are your favorite things of Summer?

My mom would be so proud…

Apr 27

Growing up, getting ready for church on Sunday was the biggest fiasco.  With three women in the house (my mom, older sister and me) things can definitely go a little crazy.

We always went to the same mass every Sunday, same time no matter what, but for some reason we always underestimated the time, rushing to finish getting ready at the last minute.  My dad still jokes about us switching outfits 100s of times until we finally put back on our original outfits to finally walk out of the house in.

Getting back to my story, my mom always made my sister and I wear a slip.  It didn’t matter if the dress was lined or as thick as wool she would swear that you could see through it and that we had to have a slip.  When I moved away to college I didn’t own a slip so I went against this cardinal rule my mom taught me until this week, I broke down and bought a slip.

A lot of my new dresses for spring are super thin and are just not quite appropriate for work, so I snagged this little half slip from Target to make it easier to wear these items for work.  My FAVORITE thing about this slip is that the waist band is lace, so there is no thin elastic band giving you another muffin top at your waist line.  Who needs ANOTHER muffin top?

So all in all, mom knows best, wear a slip, eat your vegetables and don’t talk back!

Spring Dress – Scary White Legs!

Mar 06

I live in dresses, for work or weekends dresses are my item of choice.  They are comfy, flattering (if you buy the right shape) and easy.  Almost 2 months ago I fell down a few stairs (total clutz I know) and got a horrible, ugly hematoma on my left shin.  The bruising and swelling has been so bad that I have not worn a dress without tights in those two months and it has killed me.

Over the weekend I picked up a super cute little jersey dress by Xilhiliartion, the princess seam skater dress, from Target that was only $15! Spaghetti straps with a fitted bodice, gathered a line skirt and pockets, the best part! So excited to put it on this morning, I completely overlooked the fact that my legs have been completely hidden for most of the winter.  Oh the horror to look down and realize that my legs blend oh so perfectly with the off white color in the dress :( I loved the look so much that I I wore it anyway, white legs and all.
